When you receive the plants in the post, take them out of the packaging and put in a sunny location. Give them a water. Water the compost and not the leaves if possible.
These plants are currently in 9cm pots. When you can see the roots coming out the bottom of the pots they are ready to be transplanted in either 1 litre or 2 litre pots.
We use a mixture of Magnolia brand compost and Levingtons M3 for young plants but any good general compost is perfectly suitable. Organic Tomato feed is good for growing plants.
Be careful not to over water as this is the fastest way to kill off pepper-plants. Keep the soil moist but do not drench it.
Keep plants in a sunny position in a greenhouse, conservatory or just on a warm window sill.
Some hardy varieties such as Jalapeno, Apaches and all the sweet peppers can be grown outside alongside tomato plants. However its best to keep the hotter varieties indoors as our British weather is too wet and cold.
The majority of plants will bear fruit in late summer / early autumn and keep producing pods right up to the end of October. Chilli fruits may start yellow/purple/green but almost all mature to red.
They are largely perennials, so if you can provide a nice warm place over winter, you will have a good plant which will last quite a number of years.
